Writing Blurbs
A blurb is the bit of text below a headline. Think about sections of your site that may be confusing to your audience. The primary and secondary navigation titles should be self-explanatory. But news headlines or feature items may need more information for the reader to decide whether to click or not.
Example 1On the NU Homepage, the titles "Law School Admissions," "Job Opportunities," and "President’s Office" are clear. But story headlines, such as "Huskies vs. Red Sox," need more explanation. The blurb underneath reads, "See the Sox battle NU in Fort Myers, FL." The blurb explains the content of the linked article in a short, straightforward statement.
Example 2
On the NU Research site, there are titles such as Research Guides and Centers & Institutes that are self explanatory. On the right side of the page, there are research project headlines, such as "Sensing and Imaging" that need blurbs. The blurb reads, "3-D fusion microscope that helps determine embryo viability may revolutionize infertility treatment." The blurb explains succinctly the research project.
