Understanding Your Web Site's Goals
Think about your Web audience: What are the goals/learning objectives for the site?
Your department most likely has goals it would like its Web site to achieve. If you were not in on the initial planning of your Web site, interview people in your department to understand the goals of the site. Make a list of what your department would like to accomplish with its Web site.
For example, the English department may decide its goals/learning objectives are the following:
- To increase the number of students’ majoring in English
- To inform English majors of courses required
- To inform the research community of faculty's research activities
- To increase the number of high quality submissions to Studies in American Fiction
- To encourage students to submit pieces of writing for departmental prizes
- To inform English majors of co-op, internship, and professional opportunities
- To assist students in all majors with writing
